Talk on the Rock: Valerie Stimac Bailey on her travel blog Valerie & Valise

Episode 81: Travel blogger Valerie Stimac Bailey grew up in Alaska and just 12 years ago began her blog. Now known as Valerie & Valise, she gives travel recommendations, like how much to pack and what restaurants to eat at. She focuses on primarily on Alaska travel, but also elsewhere in the United States, especially along the west coast. Last month she published a travel video of Wrangell, where two Wrangell residents, JR Meek and KSTK’s Jillian Privett, talked about what to expect and what to do as a visitor in the island town. KSTK’s Colette Czarnecki talked with Valerie on what inspired her as a travel blogger, her own travels and how she sees Valerie & Valise evolving in the future.

Talk on the Rock: Olivia Strano on the Milk Run Music Festival

Episode 80: This past year Wrangell saw its inaugural Milk Run Music Festival. One of the main organizers, Olivia Strano, informs the Wrangell community on what to expect with the second annual festival. Talk on the Rock: Jack and Jackson Carney on winning state championship in wrestling

Episode 79: The Wrangell Wolves made another triumph this past weekend, where the boys wrestlers brought home their first ever state championship in the Division II finals. They wrestled in Anchorage at the 2025 ASAA/First National Bank Alaska Wrestling State Championships. Coach Jack Carney and his son Jackson Carney talked with KSTK’s Colette Czarnecki about what this past weekend was like. Both shared their visions for the team, how they won and the hard work that got them to championship. On top of bringing home their first state championship award, they also received the Sportsmanship Award and the Division II Coach of the Year Award. The coaches of all participating teams voted Jackson as the Division II Outstanding Wrestler.

Talk on the Rock: Sarah Scambler on library events, loaning more than just books and archival information

Episode 78: It’s wintertime but that’s not stopping the Irene Ingle Public Library from being active and open. Library Director Sarah Scambler chatted with KSTK’s News Director Colette Czarnecki about events the library will be soon hosting, like the Winter Reading Program for Grownups and Craft and Chat. Scambler also talked a little bit about archives she found from the Wrangell Sentinel that she found fascinating about the history of Wrangell.

Talk on the Rock: Sara Michalski on prophetic messages and missionary work

Episode 77: Author and missionary Sara Michalski spoke with KSTK’s Colette Czarnecki about some of her experiences with supernatural powers by way of her faith. While in town from Seattle area, she spoke at Touch Point Alaskan Ministries and Harbor Light for her book tour. Wrangell was her last stop. During the conversation, she spoke about being charged for smuggling Bibles in Russia for 10 years, but she said the judge let her go after 21 days in 1976.
