Talk on the Rock: KSTK’s General Manager Cindy Sweat on what the rescissions package looks like for public media

Episode 59: Public media is facing a threat these days, as the House passed a rescissions package on June 12. It would eliminate $1.1 billion in approved funding for public media. That funding would normally go to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which helps fund many public media outlets, including ours here at KSTK. The station's General Manager Cindy Sweat spoke with News Director Colette Czarnecki to give more of an idea of what defunding public media looks like and what it might mean for our rural communities.

Talk on the Rock: Mike Hoyt and Tony Harding on carving totem poles for the upcoming totem pole raising

Many people are traveling to Wrangell for the celebration, leaving little vacancy in the island's lodging. Over the past year, the Wrangell Cooperative Association has brought in master carvers to help teach apprentice carvers. Two of them, Tony Harding and Mike Hoyt, who is also WCA’s totem pole project manager chatted with KSTK's Colette Czarnecki on their carving experience, the history of totems on Wrangell and what to expect during the event.
