The Capitol Christmas Tree finally made it to Washington D.C. all the way from Wrangell. It was barged to Seattle and then trucked across the country. Several people with Alaska’s U.S. Forest Service were part of the whistle-stop tour.

Everyone’s busy inside Wrangell’s Department of Transportation warehouse, with sounds of a shop vacuum and constant chatter. It’s almost like Santa’s workshop. But instead of toys, they tend to a very large Sitka Spruce.

Sounds of punching clay on a table filled the air in the Wrangell District’s National Forest office garage. Between throwing the lump of gray clay on the table, Claire Froelich kneaded into it, as it’s part of the process to making clay from some of Wrangell’s mud for this year’s Capitol Christmas Tree ornaments.

The sounds of birds chirping and close to 30 people chattering filled the air at the Anan Bay Cabin in the Tongass National Forest this past Monday. They waited for Senator Lisa Murkowski to arrive for the celebratory ribbon cutting ceremony of the cabin.
