After a winter storm collapsed grow tunnels, a local farm presses on
Dwane Ballou is giving me a tour of his family run small-scale farm, Oceanview Gardens. After the past six years, they are one of a few growers in Wrangell who supply the community with fresh produce and flowers. Our footsteps crunch under the gravel and ice crystals that settled on the ground. We’re looking at four of the farm’s grow tunnels, mostly with torn plastic hanging on the sides and no plastic on top. Dented and disjointed metal keep the structure of one tunnel standing. A couple months ago there was no wreckage, until the snow started falling.

Episode 83: The Lady Wolves have been doing pretty good this season. Three of them: captains Alana Harrison and Christina Johnson and coach Christy Good chatted with KSTK’s news director Colette Czarnecki about their experiences so far on this year’s team. Their next game is against Craig on Jan. 29 and Jan. 30. Junior varsity starts at 5pm and Varsity at 6:30pm.

The Wrangell Borough Assembly plans to accept $410,700 from six sales of Alder Top Subdivision lots at Tuesday night’s meeting. The borough will place these funds in the Residential Construction fund.
